The Pharmaceutical Society of Jamaica (PSJ) in association with The Kidney Support Foundation of Jamaica (KSFJ) will be hosting its annual 5K Walk/Run entitled“The ASTRA RUN”. This year we will be hosting a night run on Saturday, September 17, 2016 starting and ending at the Police Officers’ Club, 34 Hope Road, Kingston 6. The goal is to raise awareness regarding the benefits of healthy lifestyles and increased physical activities on reducing health care cost in Jamaica.
Proceeds from the 2015 Walk/Run was used to assist the Kidney Support Foundation of Jamaica and the eradication of maternal neonatal tetanus a Kiwanis International Project. This year we will once again partner with The Kidney Support Foundation of Jamaica. Funds raised will benefit the KSFJ project entitled Kidney Help – a health education program, the purchase of Ventilators for the University Hospital of the West Indies and support the purchase of a Dialysis Machine for Kingston Public Hospital (KPH). We will be launching this year’s event at the Spanish Court Hotel on Thursday August 25, 2016
The wait time at Kingston Public Hospital KPH – the largest facility in Kingston – for dialysis is five (5) years, however a patient should be dialyzed at least twice per week immediately, when diagnosed with end stage renal failure to remain alive. The journey for most kidney patients is hard, as many lose their jobs as the “wheels of production” do not allow for two (2) days off from work to go for treatment. This is regrettable as this is the time they need financial help most.
We need your support for this project and invite you to sponsor a group to represent your organization. Your support will make a difference in the lives of persons who will benefit directly at the University Hospital and the Kingston Public Hospital. You will also assist in raising the awareness about kidney disease through the KSFJ.
Groups of 20 and above attract an entry fee of J$1,000.00 per person. Individual entrants attract an entry fee of $1200.00.
